Product Description
Slow-grown in fertile red-brown soil under a cool, thick canopy of native overstory trees, this heirloom coffee is from the districts and kebeles of Ethiopia’s Gedeo zone, in the Yirgacheffe region. It is carefully hand-picked at peak ripeness by local farmers. They rotate among the trees every eight to ten days, choosing only the cherries that are at peak ripeness. Many pickers average 100 to 200 pounds of coffee cherries a day, which will produce 20 to 40 pounds of coffee beans. Each worker’s haul is sold fresh, in small batches, to the Biloya processing station.
